Millie's puppies are four weeks old already! They have been outside this past week, they have been introduced to some solids to give their mum a bit of a break and the biggest news is that this morning I discovered some little teeth already in (and I discovered that the hard way - on my finger!). These little ones are a delight and so very busy learning and exploring. Such fun!
Puppies are three weeks old and somehow, once again, we forgot one of these babies. Pictures of Faith are missing! So sorry. Enjoy the photos!
Our Sultry Singers are two weeks old! We have open eyes, a new home for them and boy! have they found their voices! I moved them all from the whelping box in to the dining area in to a larger pen. It is amazing how quickly that wonderful whelping box gets when there are 14 puppies in there! So much easier to separate for feedings now and Mama Millie is having a much easier time moving around to get to her puppies.
Well, Shelley and I were so impressed with ourselves until I went to look through them to post and realize we left out our curly boy Luther. We will have to give him an extra photo next week! For those who have not tried to take photos of hungry one week old puppies, we have included for you amusement a short video of Shelley trying to wrangle one of these little ones. Like trying to tame a bumble bee. Enjoy!
Your puppy zen for the day. We have names! This is our Sultry Singers Litter (they are rarely quiet). Introducing the girls: Roberta (Flack), Toni (Braxton), (Billy) Holiday, Lena (Horne), Pat (Benatar), Faith (Hill), and Etta (James). And the boys: Elvis, Luther (Vandross), Barry (White), Quincy (Jones), Lionel (Richie), Harry (Connick, Jr), and Otis (Redding). All puppies are gaining weight. And Millie makes sure to tell me when it is time to switch the puppies around so each half of this litter gets their fair share. At the moment that means I am rotating these little guys about every hour around the clock.
Millie and Nando puppies have arrived. And, true to form, Shelley and I had a wild time delivering this very special bundle. And we had our friend and Fernando's owner, Carrie, along to help out. She must think we are nuts! A midnight trip to the Emergency Vet, a very speedy trip back home again hoping that, after a clean bill of health and help from a wonderful vet, Millie would hold off on delivering her puppies. Not to be! She had three in the back of the van speeding on the interstate and one in the McDonald's drive thru while picking up some breakfast. Quite the start of the day for our cashier!! When all was done, she delivered 14 (!) puppies. We have some smaller ones that need extra attention. Not too surprising. I have split the litter. I have a big litter and a little litter. There are 7 boys and 7 girls. We even have 4 curlies. Millie is amazing. She is attentive and careful of all, especially the little ones. We can not thank Carrie enough for all the help. She and I had a wonderful weekend!
