Both Shelley and Barb are members of the national breed club – The Portuguese Water Dog Club of America. The mission of the PWDCA :
"To encourage and promote quality in the breeding of purebred Portuguese Water Dogs by developing and maintaining their conformation, disposition as companions, and to do all possible to bring their natural qualities to perfection."
Every year the PWDCA holds an event to showcase the Portuguese Water Dog and all of its abilities. The National brings together dogs and people from across the country and the world. Usually held in September or October, it rotates between the eastern, central and western parts of the country. It is a week filled with Water Work, Conformation, Obedience, Agility, Tracking and fun-filled festivities. At the end of the week, an awards banquet is held honoring all the dogs and handlers for their accomplishments for the year
It is a great gathering of PWD enthusiast and renewing of friendships. We try to attend as often as possible. Afortunado has had great success in many venues over the years and we look forward to the future!
